    Current Trends For Your Home

Now that pay day has arrived for most, it is always a nice opportunity to temporarily forget about your bills, and paying for that next full tank of petrol, and treat yourself to something new and exciting to brighten up, or darken your favourite room of your house. Or if it is in my case, these are things I would personally love to have and are a few of my own ideas of how I would like my own place to look like.

Another one of my favourites is this one. Marble designs are ever increasing in popularity and colour combinations. A striking and unique piece of artistry that I feel could fit anywhere in anyone’s home if they like it just as much as I do.

For £15.99 for 32 pieces of 3D marbled wall tiles I think this is a really great price for such a cool, modern looking design for your bathroom. It's calming colours are enriched with that unique marble effect that looks so artistic and charming. Marble is definitely in my opinion, very on-trend at the moment, and I personally love it. Perfect for any bathroom.

Top 3 Stress Relievers for a Peaceful Life

There are lots of things in this world that can cause stress. Some of the most common causes of stress are as follows:

    Money

Everyone want’s to be able to manage their finances effectively and have enough to buy essentials, luxuries and have a bit left over to save for those rainy days or more commonly, the emergencies. Very important to have an emergency fund…must make note to self.

    Work

We have to work. It can be really annoying sometimes, but in the end we all have to earn a living somehow, to afford to eat, buy clothes and shoes, keep a roof over our heads and afford those little luxuries, what ever they may be.

    Food Shopping

You may think this is an unusual one. In my experience, food shopping has become increasingly more stressful than it was say 10 years ago. I reckon it could be just down to the amount of people we have in the country now, and in my opinion, we need more supermarkets. I believe that for the average person doing their food shop for the week, it takes them an extra hour more than it used to.

Here are a few items that I find really do help me to relax after a stressful day.

This pillow spray last for ages and it’s lavender scent really helps you to get a restful relaxing sleep. It’s quite strong so you don’t need a lot of it. Just a couple of sprays about an hour before you go to sleep and it seriously works wonders.

I love to colour. It is not something I do all of the time but it is nice every now and then to just switch off, switch off from work mostly, and just get immersed in colour and art. There are many different colouring books you can get, and you can use pens and pencils, or paints even. I have noticed over the years how much more detailed they are becoming and I love that. They do take a while to complete, but it’s just a bit of fun.

Diamond pictures. This is something I have only been doing for around a year. The first picture I ever completed was of the Disney Castle, with silohettes of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in a boat in front of it. It’s now framed in my parent’s living room.

It doesn’t matter what it is, everyone needs to find something in their lives to allow them time to chill out and unwind. It’s so important to take time out for yourself.

  • Reflections on Losing a Retail Job

Reflections on Losing a Retail Job

This is not the first time I have set up a blog. In fact this is my 7th blog I have ever created. Since my very first blog, which was 15 years ago, I have learnt it is good blogging etiquette to provide an insight as to why I am creating this new blog, and why now. To put simply, I am losing my job. A job I have held since 2003. My job at House Of Fraser, Frasers Group, is closing in May of this year. And I am gutted. Gutted not just for me, but for my colleagues, all of whom, past and present, I hold in the highest regard for their devotion, enthusiasm and work ethic for their efforts to keep the store running as the fantastic team that they are.

My name is Sarah. I am 41 years old and I have been in retail since the year 2000, spending my first three years of retail as a YTS (Youth Training Scheme) working for a store called Bay Trading, selling fast fashion for women and girls. My wage was £55 a week. Yes that is unheard of now, but luckily for me it was not for long as I managed to obtain a part-time contract at the end of the scheme. That, I remember was something that did not happen very often, even back then. I was very grateful and extremely lucky.

As much as I enjoyed my three years at Bay Trading, sadly it was not enough money and not enough hours for me. In 2003 I went into my local Jobs Centre and picked a job from one of the newly installed computer touch screens which was a 16 hour part time job, with more money, at House Of Fraser.

I joined House Of Fraser on the 25th June 2003 for two days a week which was 16 hours guaranteed, on a Thursday and Friday on the Accessories department. Then, needing a full time job, I applied to Cash Converters for a job and got it. However, upon handing my notice to House Of Fraser, I was then offered a full time job on the Homewares department, which would be my main job base for the remainder of my time there, including after the take over of Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct in 2018, and up to present day.

As it stands I have roughly two months left working for Frasers Group. I will miss the people I have worked with very much. Considering I feel I could have easily have spent another 20 years working with Frasers. I guess I have to try and see this as a blessing in disguise as I move onto pastures new.
